TMG Ratings

Tier 1

Well-funded companies that have significant market power across industries and digital media platforms. At the moment, this category is reserved for the following five companies:

  • Amazon
  • Apple
  • Facebook
  • Google
  • Microsoft
Tier 2

These companies are market leaders. They are typically well-funded by top-tier investors and/or have received positive mentions in business and trade press. Well-established associations and collection societies also fit within this category.

Tier 3

These are credible companies that are on the TMG radar screen, but we do not have enough information to provide a rating given that they are small, private companies with little visibility. TMG does not discourage our clients from working with these companies. They can be nimble and might offer a unique technology or business model that can enable their partner to develop a differentiated service

These companies typically exhibit one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Are operating in “stealth” or beta mode.
  • Appear to have little or no capital.
  • Display a questionable business model.
  • Appear to be defunct or under significant reorganization.
  • Have a record of questionable practices, particularly in regards to copyright.

TMG recommends these companies only to those who are willing to take significant risks in order to establish a competitive advantage. These companies might also be valuable to those who are looking to acquire technologies or bring on developers
